Over the past four months, China’s defence-linked universities have continued to develop and expand their research capabilities, adding new research institutes, industry partnerships and cross-border academic programs. This has occurred as a quiet purge appears to have been unfolding, moving through the upper ranks of China’s scientific establishment.

This first edition of the CDUT newsletter documents both trends. It also introduces ASPI’s latest upgrade to the tracker itself: new research on China-Iran research ties, as well as comprehensive sanctions and export-control data across nine regulatory regimes (including the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and Taiwan), now mapped against all 180+ institutions in the database. For more details on these new updates, see the launch announcement in ASPI’s The Strategist.
