Dalian Maritime University (DMU) is designated medium risk for its involvement in defence research.

In 2018, DMU signed an agreement with the 701 Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, the 54th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group, MyLite, Huawei, and an organisation that oversees the Port of Shenzhen.https://archive.ph/S8Bsc The agreement focuses on Wireless LAN performance standards for ships.

As early as 2015, the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology R&D Center and DMU signed a strategic cooperation agreement that focused on ship navigation, ship communications, and maritime traffic management. Noteworthy international collaborations

In 2018, DMU and the College of Engineering of University of Houston signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The two parties have maintained close relations since the first MOU was signed in February 2017 and have deepened their cooperation on submarine engineering research.https://archive.fo/HvB0K 

The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and DMU signed a strategic cooperation agreement to work together on education and industry projects related to shipbuilding, marine and offshore engineering.
